On May 11th, 2024, people around the world will celebrate the amazing season of bird migration. The 2024 World Migratory Bird Day theme is "Protect Insects, Protect Birds". We celebrate this day each year by having binoculars from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Migratory Birds available for check out at our admissions entry and special signs up around the zoo with QR codes for bird ID tips and species info. We encourage visitors to walk our trails, listen for birds, observe with binoculars, explore the signs and learn about the bird residents of the Alaska Zoo through interpretive signs. This is a general admission day to the zoo. Visitors pay regular rates at the gate or use their memberships. Ask to borrow binoculars at the gate and leave your ID there for pickup when you exit. The Kape Espresso Tayo Zoo Coffee Shop and the Zoo Gift Shop will be open for business. The zoo will be open from 9am to 6pm, last entry at 5:30pm.
