"Music of the Americas," takes place on Friday, May 10 at 7:30 pm at GW Masonic National Memorial. This electrifying concert will showcase a splendid array of music from North, Central, and South America, promising an unforgettable evening of cultural exploration and musical excellence. This concert will be a lively completion of the 2023-24 season for the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic.

Highlighting the program is the captivating work of Puerto Rican composer Angelica Negron, currently based in Brooklyn, New York. Negron's composition, "Tornasol" (Spanish for sunflower), has been hailed for its wistfully idiosyncratic and contemplative nature. The piece delves into the vibrancy of color and its transformative qualities through scientific experimentation, portrayed vividly through various sections of the orchestra.

Joining the WMP is esteemed guest artist guitarist COLIN DAVIN, who will mesmerize the audience with his rendition of "Concierto del Sur," a masterpiece for guitar and orchestra composed by Mexican luminary Manuel PONCE. Davin's virtuosity and emotive interpretation promise to breathe life into Ponce's richly evocative composition.

If you enjoy "classical" music, this concert will enliven and broaden your interest!

The second half of the program promises to enthrall audiences with its energetic, rhythmic, and exhilarating repertoire. Aaron COPELAND's "El Salon Mexico" transports listeners to the vibrant atmosphere of a bustling dance hall in Mexico City, while Alberto GINASTERA's "Four Dance Episodes" from the ballet "La Estancia" immerses them in the rhythmic pulse of Argentinian folk music, depicting scenes of dance, character, and life on the ranch!

Closing the evening is Arturo MARQUEZ's "Danzon No. 2," a seductive and irresistible ballroom dance inspired by the Cuban Habanera. This enchanting piece, performed by the full orchestra, promises to leave audiences captivated and eager for next season!
