Join us for Storytime Science-a storybook read-aloud, followed by a simple activity geared toward young children. This June, the Exploratorium's own Vivian Altmann reads One Flip, Two Flip, Three Flip, Four by Crystel Patterson, illustrated by Briana Young.

Ruby has a dream and turns that dream into action. She twirls and jumps all the way to the Olympics! This story is inspired by Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas.

Then see energy and motion in action by building your own toy car with a rubber-band "motor"!

You'll need:

an empty toilet paper tube
one sturdy rubber band (approx. 3/16" by 3")
two "wheels" (cardboard circles or CDs or small paper plates)
tape
one paper clip
one chopstick or pencil
one metal washer or a mint (white) Lifesaver candy
one ballpoint pen to make holes in your "wheels," if using cardboard or paper plates

And don't miss the Poetry Corner, in which Viv has written her own poem in the style of William Shakespeare-thou shalt love it!

Time: 13:00 - 15:00
