Brazilian Artist Guta Galli Presents "Cup of Tea" June, 2023

Guta Galli revisits 'Cup of Tea', her 2015 piece, now bearing the body of a Mother coming back to the art scene. This live performance is meant to provoke a reflection on the systemic oppression of women. With a simple and repetitive act, she explores how gender stereotypes and political fictions projected over the female body generate symbolic violence, ultimately leading to the cultural misrepresentation of women as well as sexual and gender violence. It is still immensely difficult to see how in this system women could ever obtain true reproductive justice - meaning not just the right to abortion and birth control - but also to raise children in a society that sees caregiving and domestic work not only as labor but as a collective responsibility that shapes the fabric of our society.
