This is the inaugural event for World Affairs Napa Valley, a Community "Window on the World," bringing expert speakers to wide-ranging forums on current world events, economic development, foreign affairs, the environment, human rights, freedom and democracy, poverty alleviation, women issues and more. Speakers include Napa Valley locals engaged in world affairs and humanitarian projects.

Today's inaugural event commemorates the 25th Anniversary of Roots of Peace, returning to Napa Valley where local wineries helped launch its life-saving world-wide program to replace the scourge of landmines with fertile vineyards in war-torn countries. World Affairs Napa Valley will host a presentation by dynamic Founder and inspiring speaker Heidi Kuhn of San Rafael, followed by a wine social to mingle, meet the speaker, purchase signed copies of her book "Breaking Ground," and enjoy wines poured by the wineries behind the original Mines-to-Vines global initiative that launched in Napa Valley 25 years ago - Grgich Hills, Darioush, Silverado Vineyards and others. Well-known Napa Valley chefs will also serve appetizers made with ingredients produced by indigenous farmers on land brought back from war to peace through farming, working in partnership with Roots of Peace, in Afghanistan, Syria, Bosnia, Vietnam and other countries.

A chance to learn about the life-saving work of a North Bay hero whose vision to heal the land grew into a global phenomenon, praised by the UN Secretary General, heads of state and leaders in Congress. Attendees will meet like-minded humanitarians and luminaries including foreign diplomats from countries benefitting from efforts to rid the world of 100,000 landmines so far. The event will also recognize the original sponsoring wine-makers, including the legendary Miljenko "Mike" Grgich of Croatia, where Roots of Peace demined hundreds of farms.

Following this inaugural event, the new World Affairs Napa Valley chapter, will continue to bring exciting international speakers to community forums with the mission to promote conversation, understanding, youth involvement, awareness and engagement on wide-ranging global issues of the day. World Affairs programs include the "Young World Leaders" initiative to engage and develop youth as the world leaders of tomorrow. World Affairs Napa Valley also supports the annual Global Philanthropy Forum held each fall in San Francisco, where visionary innovators and philanthropists engage in partnerships helping to make the world a better place.

The September 8 event will take place in Yountville's Community Center where attendees can enjoy one of the nearby restaurants to make an evening of it. Sign-up for on the World Affairs Napa Valley registration webpage located at http://www.worldaffairs.org "Napa Valley Chapter."
