D’art Gallery Hosts “Photography: Your Vision” Exhibition

in Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe

Located at 900 Santa Fe Drive, D’art Gallery hosts the gallery’s fifth exhibition of work by national artists from Thursday, April 8, 2021 through Sunday, May 2, 2021.

The Artists Opening Reception for “Photography: Your Vision” is scheduled for Friday, April 9, from 5 – 7 pm. The juror, Maureen Ruddy Burkhart, will present the awards for Best in Show at 6 pm either in person or via Zoom.

The gallery will follow any restrictions for gatherings during COVID19. Masks are required and social distancing will be advised.

Photography: Your Vision

The theme of the exhibition, “Photography: Your Vision”, is rather broad asking artists to present through their photographic vision how photography manifests in today's world, including how it enhances each photographer’s life.

D’art Gallery wants to give other artists, besides gallery members, an opportunity to exhibit their work in Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe. The prospectus invited artists to enter work that expresses why each photographer makes photographs. Is it as simple as a desire to create beauty in a world crying for more beauty? A need to expose the world around us? A way of finding relief or coping with the outside world or internal conflict? How does photography bring the internal self, outward?

“Photography: Your Vision” Exhibition features 50 works by 37 artists from 15 States demonstrating innovative approaches to creating photographic prints through various processes: cyanotypes, archival inkjet, pigment, macro, digital, pinhole and silver gelatin, among other alternative photographic processes.

Juror Statement

“It was with a sense of privilege and humility that I was tasked with curating only 50 works from hundreds of submissions. This challenge was made even greater by the breadth of talented artists, all of whom had their own clear vision. I have a great appreciation for all manner of photography and in the end, I chose photographs that spoke to my intuitive self.

My hope is that this exhibition will be a cornucopia of visions that will inspire everyone who has a chance to see it at the D’art Gallery.”

Maureen Ruddy Burkhart received a BFA Degree in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1976. After graduating, she was employed as a photographer and filmmaker for the US Navy and Technicolor. She worked several years on an award-winning documentary in the largest slum in Kenya. The images are now included in the British Journal of Photography's "Portrait of Humanity" Exhibition.

Her work has been widely exhibited throughout the world, including Inner Mongolia, China, where she was one of 10 invited American artists. Her travel and lifestyle images are represented by Alamy and Picfair agencies. Her photographs are in collections at the Asia Society Museum and the charitable edition of Hamburg Kennedy Photographs in New York. Maureen employs instant film, digital SLRs, and iPhones to create her photographs. Undeterred by the Covid-19 lockdown she created a still life series that won the 2020 Paris Photo Prize in Fine Art Photography.
