Middletown, CT. The Friends of Long Hill Estate and the Long Hill Estate Authority with sponsorship from Middlesex Health will host their ‘Music at the Mansion’ series at the Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown in July. The concerts are free and open to the public however donations are greatly appreciated. The season opens on July 3rd with Shaded Soul Band. On July 10th the Hartford Jazz Orchestra will perform. CJ West and the Downtown Train will perform on the 17th, Plywood Cowboy on the 24th, and closing out the season on July 31st will be the Middletown Symphonic Band. The grounds open at 5:30 for picnicking, concerts begin at 6:30.
The fun starts off with Shaded Soul Band on July 3rd. The band is based in Connecticut and performs anywhere in New England at Weddings, Corporate events, outdoor concerts or any place there is a party to be had. Their music spans many different decades and the repertoire includes R & B, Motown, Funk Soul, Jazz, Reggae, Swing, Rock, Pop, Disco and Top 40. Shaded Soul Band’s powerful vocal section and soulful rhythm section makes them one of the most sought after bands in New England.
We are thrilled to welcome back The Hartford Jazz Orchestra on July 10th. The 16 piece band has entertained crowds for decades and is well known in the Hartford Jazz scene. Established in October of 1965, the HJO’s first home was King Philip Junior High School. Throughout the years, and with the transition of band leaders, the HJO made it to the scene of Club 880 which at the time was the mecca of the Harford Jazz Scene. They are now the house band at the Arch Street Tavern in Hartford, CT under the direction of Donn Trenner. Original members include Middletown’s own, Seb Giacco.
CJ West and the Downtown Train will be performing on July 17th. CJ West and The Downtown Train plays country, rock, rhythm & blues and “whatever”. The Downtown Train plays kickin’ country music, classic and modern. Lately, The Train take crowds to Woodstock, a tribute to the bands who graced the stage at Woodstock 1969. Whatever trip they’re taking you on, The Downtown Train’s talented instrumentalists and well-blended voices add up to a unique, danceable and fun musical experience!
Plywood Cowboy will perform for the first time at our music series on July 24th. Take yourself back to the days of dusty country roads, carefree summers, and your radio tuned to music that was soulful and authentic. Enter Plywood Cowboy, crafting songs ripe with these nostalgic comforts, yet perfectly suited for the soundtrack of modern life. With their second album release, “Blue Skies”, the band continues to produce refreshing music that has been called “steeped in tradition, with lyrics full of longing, truth and heart” by Sound Waves Magazine.
Closing out our concert series this year is the Middletown Symphonic Band celebrating its 40th anniversary! The Middletown Symphonic Band has been providing Connecticut residents and visitors with an excellent variety of music since 1979. The band has an extensive repertoire: classical and semi-classical pieces, Broadway, jazz, marches, holiday favorites and traditional concert band music. They perform at summer park concerts, town fairs, celebrations, and other festive occasions
At each concert there will be a variety food trucks offering light fare. Vecchitto’s Italian Ice, Franks Wood Fired Pizza, and Shishkabobalicious are scheduled for each week of the series.
All of the concerts will begin at 6:30 p.m. The grounds will be open for picnicking at 5:30 p.m. Parking will be at the Mansion, at the Wilbert Snow School, 299 Wadsworth Street, and at Mercy High School, 1740 Randolph Road. Concerts will be cancelled in electrical storms or threat to the wellbeing of the musicians or their instruments. A rain date of August 2nd has been scheduled.
