Ballet Intensive

Widely regarded as the standard for classical ballet training throughout the Greater New Haven area, New Haven Ballet offers students an opportunity to improve their technical skills and artistry through a premiere summer ballet intensive experience. During the July Intensive program, dancers train daily in a pre-professional classical ballet curriculum, which is supplemented with Pilates, conditioning and stretch, pointe, and repertory classes. The July Intensive also provides dancers with exposure to West African, Latin, Broadway, and Contemporary dance taught by the finest teachers in the region. Students who participate for the full in-studio program can achieve marked improvement in strength, flexibility and technical ability, readying them for their upcoming Nutcracker season.

CHILDREN'S DIVISION (AGES 4-10)

For those completing 3K pre-kindergarten, 1st Steps celebrates creativity and introduces fundamental movement to music, in addition to basic motor skill development. For those completing 4K Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten, Creative Ballet promotes the development of a child's natural creativity with focus on motor skill development and musical awareness. For those finishing 1st and 2nd grades, Pre-Ballet and Primary offer an introduction of more formal classical ballet training, using age appropriate ballet vocabulary and movement. No placement class needed to register for Children's Division classes.

STUDENT DIVISION (Ages 10-19 years)
For students ages 10 to 19 years, ballet intensive workshops offer a wide range of classes designed to maximize technical and artistic skills, while presenting an opportunity to experience different modalities of movement. During the July Intensive, students in levels 1, 2 and 3 continue their formalized ballet training, perfecting all of the primary vocabulary and steps. Introductory and beginning pointe work continues in Levels 4 and 5, and Intermediate and Advanced students incorporate more advanced technique, with the emphasis on developing individual artistry, technical detail and movement. New Haven Ballet offers students the highest caliber of classical ballet training in the region including, pointe and repertory. Training is augmented by a rich diversity of workshops and classes that may range from classical, Neo-classical, character, contemporary, lyrical, choreography, partnering, conditioning and stretch, to nutrition for dancers, injury prevention, and Pilates. New students are required to take a placement class to register for Levels 2-8.
