Jazz, in the words of the iconic musician Jack DeJohnette, "has always been a world music." That is the premise of this pathbreaking concert, in which Arts Bonita Resident Artist Dr. Zachary Bartholomew brings in the internationally renowned ethnomusicologist and percussionist Michael Bakan, joined by bassist Brandon Robertson and vocalist Nicole Bartholomew, for a diverse program of world-inspired jazz and jazz-inspired world music. Highlighting compositions by Duke Ellington, Mary Lou Williams, Dave Brubeck, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Alice Coltrane, Astor Piazzolla, Abbey Lincoln, and Tito Puente, Bakan and company will take you on a musical journey extending from India, Turkey, and Tunisia to Brazil, Cuba, and Argentina.
