Natural disasters can have widespread and lasting effects on local communities. The heroic effort that goes towards helping affected communities pull together and recover can’t be overstated, nor can it be taken for granted. Many communities never recover after being wiped out by a natural disaster, and the situation has only become more difficult now that climate change has led to bigger and more frequent floods, hurricanes, and wildfires.

If you’re interested in learning more about the effort that goes into helping those communities recover — as well as what you can do to help yours recover in case of a catastrophe — the upcoming “Reconnecting Communities after a Natural Disaster” is something you should keep on your radar.

This free online event will be hosted by Dr. Brett Perkison, and it will cover how the repeated floods caused by climate change have impacted the local communities in Houston.

Event disclaimer: This event does not belong to The Professional Law Group. We are promoting this event as it relates to the aim of our website, products, and services. Dr. Brett Perkison works for Houston’s University of Texas Health Science Center. One of the event's main topics will be discussing how repeated floods have affected communities of lower socioeconomic status and going over the type of effort and resilience needed to recover from those events. As well as what can happen when the necessary resources for recovery are lacking.

Wealthy neighborhoods often have an easier time recovering from catastrophes. It’s never easy to pick up and rebuild after a flood, wildfire, or hurricane. But having savings, an insurance policy, and being able to hire hurricane insurance lawyers like these ones can make the process easier. But what happens to communities that can’t afford those luxuries? And what can you do to help your community recover in the event of a catastrophe?

Dr. Brett Perkison will cover the efforts of the local Houston community that is trying to address these and other issues related to how floods affect their communities. Which is being done through public advocacy, organization, and preparedness efforts.

The “Reconnecting Communities after a Natural Disaster” is a free online event taking place this February. Participants need to register ahead of time on the organizer’s Eventbrite page.
