The theater conservatory program provides training and performance opportunities for young people. Kids of ages 9-16 can now register for our spring production of Seussical Jr.

A musical perfect for the whole family, Seussical takes us into the world of Dr. Seuss, where we revisit beloved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and JoJo. The Cat in the Hat guides us into The Jungle of Nool where we see Horton, the kindhearted elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whoville.

He meets JoJo, a Who child sent to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton decides he must protect the speck of dust on a nearby clover, while at the same time protecting an abandoned egg left to his care by the lazy Mayzie la Bird. Horton tries to convince the other animals in The Jungle of the existence of the Whos, but he is ridiculed and put on trial for insanity.

In the Junior Players production, students will have the opportunity to take on one of the famous roles in the Seussical Jr. The students will rehearse every Saturday with our theatre professionals, learning acting, singing, choreography and stagecraft, and then perform the full show to the public on the Seminole Theatre mainstage.

The rehearsals will be every Saturday, September 3, 2022, from 8:30am – 5:30pm at the Seminole Theatre. Plan to bring a snack and lunch during every rehearsal. We also expect the students to be available every evening for tech rehearsals 11/011/22-11/03/22, and for the three performances 11/04/22-11/06/22(Friday and Saturday evenings, Sunday afternoon).

No experience required! The Jr. Players are open to all who wish to be involved. Auditions will be held on the first rehearsal day, and parts will be assigned for the production. Not every student can play a lead role, but every student will be an integral part of a fun production and have a fantastic learning experience.

The full tution cost is $750 to cover the directors and instructors, plus any costumes, props or specialty makeup needed for the show (other than shoes and basic undergarments). HOWEVER, we have half scholarships available thanks to the Friends of the Historic Seminole. Scholarships will be given on a financial need basis. Scholarship applications not completely filled out will not be accepted. For the first time we will also have scholarships available based on Merit. Applicants will be asked to submit a video and a paragraph on what theatre means to them.
