September is Hunger Action Month – a time dedicated to raising awareness about food insecurity with the hope of inspiring action.
This year, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is inviting the community into the warehouse for an in-person, behind-the-scenes look at its facilities and efforts to help the one in seven Central Floridians who don’t know where their next meal will come from on any given day.
On Wednesday, September 14, “Food for Thought” tour participants will get an inside look at the food bank’s active warehouse and distribution center, seeing first-hand how Second Harvest distributes enough food for a quarter of a million meals a day. Attendees will also learn about the different programs the nonprofit maintains to help feed those experiencing food insecurity across Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole, Volusia and Brevard counties. Anyone interested in the September 14 tour must register by Wednesday, September 7.
The tour starts at 11:30 a.m. and runs about an hour in length. Lunch will be offered to tour participants.
