If you already have some experience, well pair you with one of our master instructors to focus on what you want to learn, or show you more advanced techniques and skills. Dress appropriately for conditions (If it will be cold, bring extra layers, farmer jane/john, wetsuit, etc.)
Closed toe foot-gear required, water shoes recommended (we will likely be in and out of kayaks/boards and in proximity to oyster beds, rocks, etc.)
A snack (some classes can be tiring and having an extra boost of energy can make all the difference)
Sun protection (sun hats, sunscreen, long sleeves, or however you choose to protect yourself from the sun)
If you are in a rolling class, we highly recommend either a swim mask that covers your nose, or a combination of swim goggles and nose clip
Sweetwater kayaks is happy to provide you with a kayak or paddle board to use at no extra cost. We may require you to use one of our boats or boards if we believe yours could be unsafe or inappropriate for the class (such as a sit on top for a roll class). We require PFDs to be used during instructional classes as well as any other safety equipment deemed necessary by your instructor.
Classes are subject to cancellation due to weather or any other hazards. If you cannot reschedule, we will issue a full refund.
As the owner of Sweetwater, I´ve been teaching paddle sports since 1999 and just one of the qualified instructors more than qualified to teach your lesson. I have paddled across the Baltic Sea, the Artic and all over the world and am a certified coach in the American Canoe Association and the British Canoe Union. We even teach park rangers for the State of Florida who are working with people in parks. Today we have five instructors certified to teach sea kayaking, surf kayaking, open canoe and stand-up paddle board, and will match you with the right instructor: All instructors are certified, mostly at mid-level, so they can teach anything up to a 15 mile wind and two foot seas. You will enjoy your experience, learn all the techniques you need, and how to stay safe, at the beautiful Weedon Island Nature preserve.
