The New Year is in full swing at the Lawrenceville Arts Center with a line-up of shows and events to kick off 2023. Aurora Theatre Academy Open House is set to welcome students and their families for a tour of the LAC and a sneak peek of the exciting classes coming in 2023. Heart-warming laughs will be had with the Kim family in the Season Subscription Series’ Kim’s Convenience. LAC Global’s Asian International Celebration, which will feature works from local Asian artists, coincides with the production. Meanwhile, Grammy-nominated and platinum recording artist Sean Mullins will present a laid-back night of live music, with Atlanta-based comedian Hank Denson performing a special comedy show the following weekend. At the Children’s Playhouse, Stiles & Drewe’s Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Squeeze the Clown are sure to thrill kids as they learn valuable life lessons and discover new music genres.

Hank Denson, an Atlanta-based comedian, has been making a name for himself on the comedy circuit for the past 10 years, opening for Jamie Foxx, Cedric the Entertainer, Amy Schumer and Rodney Perry. Audiences may know him as the viral sensation who created the #payteachersmoremoney movement or from his appearances on Atlanta & Company, in Barbershop 3 and in the Tupac biopic All Eyes on Me. Hank returns to his Atlanta roots for this special performance as a part of Aurora Comedy Nights at LAC.

Grammy-nominated, platinum recording artist and Atlanta native Shawn Mullins comes to Lawrenceville Arts Center for a one-night-only concert event. Best known for the 1998 single Lullaby, which hit number one on the Adult Top 40, Shawn is a singer-songwriter who specializes in folk rock, instrumental rock, adult alternative and Americana music. He brings a live show that is intimate and compelling, making for an enjoyable night of live music.

LAC Global Presents: Asian International Celebration

As many in the community celebrate the Lunar New Year, LAC Global will host its inaugural Asian International Celebration. This multinational arts showcase will be dedicated to art forms and artists in Aurora’s community that represent a multitude of Asian heritages. This event will include live music, dance and drum performances, spoken word and short films. The film and video production company BAIRN, led by Thomas & Evans Nguyen, will present local short films and lead conversations that feature Asian stories. Samulnori from the Korean Cultural Center, Yao Lu and more are scheduled to perform.

Squeeze the Clown

Aurora Theatre welcomes Squeeze the Clown to the Aurora Children’s Playhouse as he takes the audience on a zany trip of clown music, magic and imagination. Inspired by Motown-era soul music and the circus, Squeeze mesmerizes and fills children with joy through his creative tricks and songs.

See the show that will delight over 10,000 students on field trips this winter! A family musical from George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, the musical team that took Mary Poppins from the screen to the stage. Goldilocks and The Three Bears teaches us to keep our hands off others belongings or there will be consequences to “bear.” With a heaping helping of music and mayhem, this classic fairytale turned modern musical is a roaring good time.
