(Savannah, GA) Bach Ascending, a new concert series in Savannah, returns Thursday, November 12 with a performance by pianist Benjamin Warsaw. This concert was originally scheduled in April and was the second of three "demonstration" events planned for the first part of 2020. "We hoped to introduce Bach Ascending to the community and then announce our first full season with a bang,” says Tom White, founding artistic director. “Then COVID-19 changed everything, and we had to cancel. The bright side is we’ll be able to roll the postponed concerts into 2020-2021 and plan accordingly as we monitor the situation."

Dr. Benjamin Warsaw is a well-known Savannah-based musician. He is on the faculty at Georgia Southern University as Assistant Professor where he teaches piano and theory. His program, "From Bach to Warsaw," presents the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his influence on later generations composers, concluding with Warsaw’s original compositions.

Bach Ascending is an independent, non-profit organization based at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in historic downtown Savannah. The church has been holding in-person services since June observing strict guidelines for entry and seating. “Like others, we long to be together as a community but want to do that as safely as possible. In addition to making a way for our congregation to gather, we are also streaming our worship services, as we will do for Dr. Warsaw’s concert. We consider this an integral part of our ministries as we strive to provide hope beyond church building,” states the Rev. Sara Cutter, co-pastor of the church and a member of the board of directors.

As on Sundays, attendees will be subject to a temperature check, spread out seating, social distancing, and face coverings. White adds, "We are opening up 50 seats in a room that holds 500. I believe they will go very fast as people are hungry for live music."

For those unable to obtain tickets or who want to watch from home, the concert will also be live-streamed on its website and Facebook-live. More information about the rescheduling of “The Beatles and Bach” with Laura Ball will be available when a decision is made.
