Writer and composer Dave Malloy describes his musical Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 as an "electropop opera" that combines elements of rock, EDM, Russian Folk, and classical music with a healthy dose of old-school Musical Theatre. His unexpected and artful combination of styles helps to translate characters and situations from Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace for today's audience in a stirringly relevant way. This production will combine Malloy's eclectic, fast-paced music with dynamic, actor-generated movement and enthusiastic storytelling to communicate the larger questions the musical asks: What do we owe to each other in society? How do we protect the people we love? Is it possible to live a life of hope and meaning when surrounded by a violent, tumultuous world?
