Jazz Quintet Celebrates "New Beginnings" in a Post-Pandemic World

The concert will feature jazz tunes such as McCoy Tyner's "Inception," Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage," Slide Hampton's "A New Thing," Kenny Barron's "Dawn," and many others. It will be held live in the Winchester Unitarian Church sanctuary, 478 Main Street, Winchester. It will also be live-streamed.

Music will be performed by Tom Palance on trumpet, Brian Price on saxophone, John Kramer on piano, Rick McLaughlin on bass, and Yoron Israel on drums. John Kramer's composition "New Beginnings," written especially for this concert, is featured on the program.

Tom Palance is a much sought-after trumpet player, educator, recording artist, and conductor. He is an assistant professor in the Harmony Department at Berklee College of Music and artistic director of The Orchestra on the Hill. Celebrated saxophonist Brian Price has performed and collaborated around the world, including with the Lost and Wandering Blues Band in Paris, and with Cooper-Moore across the US and in Europe. John Kramer has written music for piano, organ, orchestra, and choir and has received numerous commissions. He is an assistant professor in the Harmony Department at Berklee College of music and serves as Music Director at the Winchester Unitarian Society. Rick McLaughlin has performed and recorded worldwide as a bandleader, sideman, and member of the Grammy-nominated jazz group Either/Orchestra. He is an assistant professor in the Harmony Department at Berklee College of Music. Yoron Israel has recorded and worked with numerous jazz artists, including Horace Silver, Art Farmer, and Freddie Hubbard. He is assistant chair and professor in the Percussion Department at Berklee College of Music.

Suggested donations at the door are $20 adults, $15 seniors, $5 students; donations may also be made online. Masks are optional, with a special area available only for those wearing masks.
