Artist In Residence Weekend and All Ages Concert

As Congregation Beth Israel kicks off their 100th year, we are holding a weekend of music, food and community gathering with Artist in Residence, Rabbi Josh Warshawsky, Ordained at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in LA , Josh is a musician, song leader and composer. In the past several years, he has put out several albums and has established himself as a nationally touring Jewish musician and teacher of Torah. In his own words, Rabbi Warshawsky sees himself as a "pray-er, gatherer, music creator, and lifelong meaning seeker". Josh travels to synagogues and Jewish communities across the country sharing his music and teachings on prayer and meaningful living. He has released four albums of Jewish music, filled with original melodies that express the meaning and intention of the words of the Jewish tradition.

Our June weekend will begin with Friday night services when Josh will use his guitar to lead a musical Kabbalat Shabbat at Congregation Beth Israel. Following a kosher catered community dinner, Rabbi Warshawsky will teach melodies and meanings of a few traditional and new Shabbat Zemirot (songs). On Saturday morning, Josh will lead services and teach about the Musaf "Kedusha" prayer to which he has composed an original melody. Following Kiddush Lunch, Beth Israel's Rabbi Fellman and Rabbi Warshawsky will hold a participatory public conversation entitled "Lessons from the Road", focusing on Jewish communities around the country. The weekend will culminate on Sunday at Congregation Beth Israel with a 3:00-4:30PM concert for all ages when Josh will be joined by violinist / vocalist Coleen Dieker and drummer Mitch Gordon. Reservations are required for the Friday night dinner and concert tickets are available for purchase prior to the event and at the door. All other events are free and open to the public.
