Bud and Burgers in the Bay

 Mitchell Distributing is excited to present the inaugural Bud and Burgers cookoff in Bay St Louis on Saturday, September 10. This competition allows for home cooks, restaurants, businesses, or organizations to assemble teams to compete for prizes for the best burger. The event will be held on the grounds of Our Lady of the Gulf Coat Catholic Church in the Bay and all proceeds from the cookoff will go to the church.

While this is the first Bud and Burgers in the Bay, Mitchell Distributing is no stranger to this cookoff as they've hosted competitions in cities all over the state over the last seven years.

"The idea for Bud and Burgers was first created through Anheuser Busch and we at Mitchell Distributing decided to host our own competition in Meridian initially," said Anna Grace Tanner, communications manager for Mitchell Companies. "We had such a fantastic turnout and amazing support from the community that we outgrew our venue the first year. After that, the competition grew more and more each year, so we decided to host it in other towns in our markets as well."

After the success in Meridian seven years ago, the competition has been held each year in Tupelo, Starkville, Cleveland, and in Ocean Springs recently this past spring.

"Bringing Bud and Burgers to the Mississippi Gulf Coast has always been something we wanted to do," said Tanner. "We had a great cookoff in Ocean Springs this past spring with wonderful support from the community and now we're looking forward to bringing it to Bay St Louis and seeing that same success. Our goal is for these cookoffs to be a staple event in these communities and grow more every year."

The event will include live music, the opportunity to sample burgers from the teams participating, and of course Budweiser (and other Anheuser Busch products) available for purchase for those 21 years and older. There were also water and soft drinks available for sale. Admission for the event and to be able to sample burgers from the participating teams will be $10 a person and will give attendees to vote for their favorite burger to win the coveted People's Choice award.

Registration is now open for teams to sign up to compete in this year's cookoff. There will be great prizes for all winners with blind judging based on flavor and presentation of the burger in first, second, and third place, as well as the People's Choice award and a Best of Show award for best decorations and team spirit. Team registration is $50 and includes five pounds of ground beef thanks to Performance Food Group. Teams will also receive t-shirts and drink tickets.
