Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System will host "What Does Black History Mean to You?" on Facebook Live on February 28, 2021, featuring Mayor Robert Smith, District Attorney Scott Colom, community residents and library staff. This event will end our month-long Black History celebration.

The event will be pre-recorded and aired live on our Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System's Facebook page, via Facebook live at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2021.

The event will feature two of our most prominent leaders in Lowndes County, Mayor Robert Smith and District Attorney Scott Colom, as we ask them the important question, what does Black History mean to them? Also, followed by a few other questions related to their time in their field. The Live will also feature other library staff members giving their meanings of Black History as well as a couple of Black History songs, sung by a few community residents.

Wil'Lani Turner, Coordinator of Circulation, said "I am very excited to have two influential men in our community, stop by the library, to have this discussion with me: in honor of Black History Month. It has been very tedious finding new approaches to reach our community during this pandemic. I felt this virtual discussion was a good way to get a better look at our leaders, while also keeping touch with our community." Erin Busbea, Library Director, said "Even though we can't have our normal programming, we still wanted to make sure that we were educating our community and celebrating the month and the phenomenal African-Americans that do not get enough recognition for their contributions to our world and livelihoods.

The objective of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library is to select, organize, preserve, and make available materials which will aid the citizens of Lowndes County in their pursuit of education, information, recreation, research and culture.
