Nov. 13 OUT OF THE DARKNESS Walk for Suicide Prevention

This 2-mile scenic walk around ECSU will bring together in a safe place those who have lost loved ones to suicide, those who have attempted suicide, those who support someone at risk for suicide, those with ongoing mental health struggles, and too, those who work to help all those affected by suicide. Also invited are supportive local businesses and organizations who want to be part of the Fight to #StopSuicide.

At the Northeastern NC OUT OF THE DARKNESS Walk, participants can learn about the causes of suicide, the risk factors & warning signs to watch for, and learn more about ways they can prevent suicide. The North Carolina Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will provide free resources for all touched by suicide and have volunteers on hand to answer questions. Other local mental health/crisis team partner organizations will also be there to share their resources.

Schedule:
1-2pm - Fast Track check-in for pre-registered Walkers (via http://www.afsp.org/NortheasternNC); Registration Process for Walk-Up Walkers; Mental Health & Vendor Fair open to all; Field games & Facepainting for all ages; AFSP Pop Up Shop open; Hope & Healing Hub open to post photos/poems/notes in memory of those lost to suicide or to honor someone in the fight for mental wellness; AFSP Honor Beads Center open (learn more at https://www.theovernight.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=cms.page&id=1043 ); crafts & coloring for all ages; etc.

2pm-2:20pm - Brief Opening Program with Honor Beads Ceremony

2:20-2:30pm - Gather at Start Line for countdown to WALK which begins at 2:30pm

2:30-3:30pm - 2-mile accessible & scenic walk, with Spirit Stations along route.

3:30-4pm - Re-gather at Finish Line for water/fruit/granola bars, for final hugs & Bubble Release

4pm - Event Ends
