At the Throttle Experiences

Jeddo Coal Company #85, nicknamed “Mack,” is a standard gauge, coal burning, 0-4-0 Tank Steam Engine owned and restored by Gramling Locomotive works. The locomotive was built in 1928 by the Vulcan Iron Works for the A.E. Dick Construction Co. of Scranton, Pennsylvania who used it in their stone quarry until 1933 when they sold it to the Jeddo – Highland Coal Company located near Hazelton, Pennsylvania. Jeddo named it Engine No. 85 and used it in their mining operations until 1964 when they sold it to a collector who moved it to Horseheads, New York.

 

Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your selected time to allow time to get checked in, walk to the event location, and for a safety orientation session. Must be 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license. Check-in at the Barber Junction Visitors Center, where you will be provided a museum admission wrist band and directed to the “At the Throttle” event booth to complete your orientation and liability release form. Please have and show your driver’s license when signing the liability form.

 

Clothing appropriate to a working rail yard should be worn at all times. Jeans/overalls, long sleeve cotton shirt, and boots are required. Participants wishing to have their picture taken should bring a camera.

 

Admission to museum is included in ticket price for each paid participant. Guests arriving with the participant will need to purchase museum admission separately. This event is rain or shine. No refunds or exchanges. This experience is not ADA accessible, and participants must be able to climb a vertical ladder into the locomotive cab.
