Grammy-nominated Mehmet Sanlikol Trio: Jazz with a Turkish Flavor

Mehmet Sanlikol is an internationally celebrated composer of both western and Turkish music. Grammy-nominated composer and the September 2016 Editor's Pick of the most well-known jazz magazine in the world, DownBeat, he is also a professor at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. You'll hear innovative compositions - influenced by Turkish music - in which Near and Middle Eastern modes and rhythmic cycles are not simply placed next to contemporary Jazz but are intertwined with it. The Boston Globe calls his music "colorful, fanciful, full of rhythmic life, and full of feeling," adding that it is "not touristy, but rather sophisticated, informed, internalized."
