Since making his PUC debut seven years ago when he was just 24-years-old, British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor has firmly established himself as one of the most important pianists to emerge in several decades. The program that he brings for his long-awaited return is a testament to the jaw-dropping range of his virtuosity — the profound intimacy of Brahms’ Intermezzi Op. 117 and the passion of Robert Schumann’s great Fantasy in C Major Op. 17 (“perhaps the most impassioned music I have ever written,” in the composer’s own words) will culminate with Mussorgsky’s fiendishly difficult and imaginative Pictures at an Exhibition. As the bells of the Great Gate of Kiev sound in the work’s grand finale, you will hear for yourself why this poet of the piano was named one of the top 50 pianists ever on record by Gramophone in 2023.
