NYC songwriter, singer and guitarist Sid Whelan has just released his 3rd album, 'Waitin' for Payday.' It features the return of co-producer Lora-Faye (Arthur Moon). This new album stretches further stylistically than the first two and point toward Sid's future projects which will delve further into the limitless possibilities of rock+blues+country+soul ingredients that form the base of the Americana musical stew.
Sid has studied songwriting with Grammy-winning artists Steve Earle and Chely Wright. He has studied guitar with Woody Mann and Howard Morgen. He cut his teeth on rock and roll in the mid '80's and in the '90's was lead guitarist with various world music acts including the Lijadu Sisters and later Afroblue. On this current album, Sid's deep appreciation of African music makes an appearance on "Legba Ain't no Devil" and "The Promise."
In 2013 he put his band together and released the group's first CD 'Flood Waters Rising,' a blues-inspired collection of nine songs, which Blues Matters (UK) called "...a definitive return of a great musician." In 2015 he released 'The Story of Ike Dupree,' which features a horn section arranged and led by the great funk pioneer Fred Wesley. "The additional contribution of legendary bandleader and trombonist Fred Wesley and his funky horn section to these songs can be defined as a great and artful achievement." - Rootstime
