New York City Opera Presents Summer 2023 Season at Bryant Park

New York City Opera will present a season of four free, live performances this summer as part of their Park Series in Bryant Park Picnic Performances presented by Bank of America. Each performance features City Opera's brightest stars as well as members of the City Opera orchestra and will begin at 7pm on the Bryant Park Stage. The series of one-night-only operas accompanied by live music includes La Bohème, The Barber of Seville, Tenor Allesandro Lora in Concert, and Romeo and Juliet. Entry is on a first-come, first-served basis. Performances are designed to be enjoyed casually - no tickets required - with ample seating available and free picnic blankets for audience members to borrow. For anyone unable to attend in person, free livestream broadcasts of the performances will be available nationwide via Bryant Park's website and social media platforms.

La Bohème

New York City Opera opens the 2023 season of Picnic Performances with a star-studded, fully staged performance of a beloved Puccini classic. Puccini's unmatched gift for melody adds remarkable poignancy to the simple joys and heartbreaking sorrows of a group of young Parisians in this universally popular opera. Conducted by Maestro Joseph Rescigno and accompanied by members of the New York City Opera Orchestra, this world-class production, offered free of charge in Bryant Park, is not to be missed.

The Barber of Seville

New York City Opera's Bryant Park summer series continues with family favorite The Barber of Seville. Gioachino Rossini's sparkling music animates the hijinks of Figaro, opera's most famous barber. This crowd-pleasing production is fully staged and will feature members of the New York City Opera Orchestra.

New York City Opera returns to Bryant Park for an enchanting concert in the grand tradition of the great Italian tenors, presented free of charge as part of the park's summer Picnic Performances Series. An exciting young talent, tenor Alessandro Lora of Vicenza, Italy will perform a crowd-pleasing concert of diverse Italian repertoire including folk, popular, and traditional Neapolitan songs alongside operatic favorites, sure to delight the whole family. Featuring the New York City Opera Orchestra, the concert will be led by two great conductors, Maestro Maurizio Barbacini and Maestro Diego Basso, founder of the Orchestra Musico Sinfonica Italiana and the prestigious Art of Voice Academy. Produced in cooperation with Sandro di Benedetto, Bruno Benetti, and OneArt, the evening promises to be an unforgettable night of classic Italian romance and passion, sure to bring the audience to their feet. 

Romeo and Juliet

Friday, September 8, 2023 at 7pm

City Opera's 2023 Bryant Park series concludes with Romeo and Juliet. Gounod's perennial favorite brings Shakespeare's play to life through some of the most beautiful music in the French repertoire. City Opera Music Director Maestro Constantine Orbelian will be at the helm, accompanied by members of the City Opera Orchestra.

Attendees may bring their own food or purchase from on-site food and beverage vendors near the Lawn. At most performances, attendees can purchase food from a rotating line-up of local NYC vendors curated by Hester Street Fair. At all performances, Stout NYC offers cheese and charcuterie boards as well as a selection of beer, wine, frosé, and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase. COVID-19 vaccinations and masks are not currently required but Bryant Park will continue to monitor and follow updated New York City and New York State COVID-19 guidelines throughout the summer as necessary.
