Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces that the first play in the TRU Voices Series, Tiny Empty Nest, will star Jade Anderson, Haneen Arafat Murphy, Raeanna Peacock and Mark Quiles on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 3pm. Tiny Empty Nest is part of the 22nd annual TRU Voices New Plays Virtual Reading, new plays by TRU writers produced by TRU producers, presented with generous support from The StoryLine Project. "This is particularly exciting for TRU," declares TRU executive director Bob Ost, "since all four actors were discovered by the production team at our recent Audition Weekend. Of course we are proud to help develop new plays, but it is also true to our mission to bring talent together and create opportunities for artists to work and grow together."

 

The "Dollars and Sense" talkback panel for Tiny Empty Nest will include Patrick Blake, producer (The 39 Steps revival, Bedlam Theater's Hamlet/St. Joan, Play Dead, The Exonerated, In the Continuum), founding artistic director Rhymes Over Beats; Charlotte Cohn, producer (Church and State, Handle with Care, Rated P!); R.K. Greene, executive director of The Storyline Project, producer (Farinelli and the King, Peter and the Starcatcher, A Time to KillThe Lightning Thieftour; off-Broadway Terms of Endearment, Cougar the musical; upcoming Beau the musical); Jennifer Isaacson, producer (Moulin Rouge!, An American in ParisHedwig and the Angry Inch starring Neil Patrick Harris, Of Mice and MenANN starring Holland Taylor, Tony for The Norman Conquests); Janel Scarborough, producer/script developer (Single Black Female, Welcome to America, Fotos), founding member of Backdoor Films.

 

"We were so heartened to see that the shutdown did not shut down our talented community of writers," says TRU literary manager Cate Cammarata. "We got an inspiring influx of new work submitted to the series, and we're proud to present three of the most intriguing. David Beardsley (playwright) is a playwright from Boston, Massachusetts. His work has been performed throughout the U.S., in Europe, and in Australia. His play, Holy and Unruly, was a 2019 finalist for the Ashland New Plays Festival and a semi-finalist for the 2020 Bay Area Playwrights Festival. Cursetownis currently in development in Moonbox Productions' 2021 Boston New Works Project.

 

Haneen Arafat Murphy (Claire Booker) has spent most of her career as a performer behind the microphone, as a radio host in NYC and internationally, and as a commercial voice over actor--with clients including Ford, Pringles, Delta Air Lines, Wal-Mart and others. Haneen is thrilled to be a part of Tiny Empty Nest in the 2021 TRU Voices Reading Series, and appears onstage next in Twelfth Night with Chester Theater Group.

 

Mark J. Quiles (Ben Booker) – was recently seen as Secretary of Beth Midrash (Recurring) on the TV Series The Chosen (2021).  During the recent quarantine, he also has performed in two Shakespeare Radio Drama's (Richard II and Julius Caesar) with Keith Hamilton Cobb, Jamie Bellard, and Patrick Page.  Before the world closed down, he played Juror 11 in 12 Angry Men ( Company Theater Group) and the Ghost/ 1st Player/ Gravedigger in @Shakespeare's inaugural production of Hamlet.  New York: Salesman in Ah Wilderness and Harry, Milt and Melvin in The Fight (Storm Theatre/Sheen Center); Zeno, the Isaurian in Romulus The Great (Yangtze Repertory Company). Raeanna Peacock (Susan/Phoebe) is very excited to make her acting debut in Tiny Empty Nest. She has been involved in performances through high school, college and community theatre and has studied vocal performance for 11 years. She graduated from Fort Hays State University, with a Bachelor's of Music Performance, in the winter of 2019. Raeanna's accomplishments include performing Dan Forrest's Requiem for the Living at Carnegie Hall, NYC and W.A. Mozart's Requiem at the Dom Cathedral in Salzburg, Austria (along with performing in the Melk Abbey in Melk, Austria and St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, Austria). She was a finalist in the 2018 Rondelli Vocal Competition and every year through 2014-2018 in the West Central Regionals of the National Associations for Teachers of Singing Competition.

 

Jade Anderson (Chloe/Dean Evans/Radio voice) is absolutely thrilled to be a part of Tiny Empty Nest. She studied acting at Circle in the Square and Stella Adler Theatre Conservatories. Currently, she hosts the webseries RetroCirque on Youtube and will soon release a short film she stars in, co-wrote and produced with ReelEyez Productions. Evan Bernardin (producer) of Evan Bernardin Productions is a General Manager and Producer. Evan has worked with the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS (BCEFA), Fringe (NY & LA), The Workshop Theatre Company, The Broadway Youth Ensemble (BYE), and The Make A Wish Foundation.

 

Jesica Garrou (director) is located in Maine but working all over the country. Her early career as an Online Instructional Designer combined nicely with her theatre background when the pandemic forced Virtual Theatre into the limelight. Prior projects include Virtual Happy Hour as part of TRUSpeak ...Hear Our Voices benefit in February 2021,and Alice! An Original Musical.
