The Rocky River Chamber Music Society opens its 61st season on October 14 at 7:30 p.m. at West Shore Unitarian Universalist church, 20401 Hilliard Boulevard in Rocky River. Come prepared for a lively evening of Hungarian classical and folk music as presented by members of The Cleveland Orchestra, and nationally renowned master of the cimbalom, Alexander Fedoriouk.  Music to be performed includes Bartok’s String Quartet #2, Monti’s Csárdás, Brahms’s Hungarian Dance #5, and traditional folk songs from Hungary and Romania.

This concert’s musicians include Emma Shook, second violin of The Cleveland Orchestra since 2001; Katherine Bormann, first violin of the Orchestra since 2011; Stanley Konopka, assistant principal viola of the Orchestra since 1991; Martha Baldwin, cello, who joined the Orchestra in 2001; and Henry Peyrebrune, bass, who joined The Cleveland Orchestra in 1997.

Though he has appeared as a guest artist and substitute for The Cleveland Orchestra, Alexander Fedoriouk has worked with many other types and sizes of musical groups primarily as a soloist or chamber music player.  He has been heralded as one of the greatest cimbalom players in North America, who is also known as an accomplished percussionist, woodwind player, accordionist, and instrument maker.  His discography includes The Art of the Cimbalom, Crossing Paths, and Cimbalom Traditions.  He grew up in Ukraine, and received a degree from Kiev State Conservatory.  Reviewers have claimed, “Fedoriouk can play with a speed that is barely comprehended!”

Rocky River Chamber Music Society has passed its 60th anniversary, but remains firmly committed to presenting concerts to Northeast Ohio audiences at no admission charge.  All are welcome.  RRCMS continues to look to the future and search for ways to better serve our community.  For further information visit the RRCMS website at http://www.rrcms.org, or follow RRCMS on Facebook and Twitter.
