This will be the 7th year for the walk. There were four previous Amarillo-area walks that have collected donations totaling over $64,000, all of which has gone to the Conquer Chiari organization for research in 2012 to 2018. In 2017, The Texas Walk Across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains started raising funds to provide education and awareness while raising money for research for all the silent conditions, not just chiari and to keep the money local. Most people overlook the severity of these conditions because those diagnosed with the conditions at times look and act normal. The National Organization of Rare Disorders (NORD) lists Chiari, Dysautonomia, and EDS, as rare conditions several individuals experience. Since there is minimal progress for finding a cure at this time, the walk will allow individuals plagued by all the conditions to stay connected with different organizations that are attempting to find a cure through research. Some of these organizations apply their research and information to improve the quality of life for diagnosed individuals.

This year all money will be kept local to support local doctors and medical students conducting research to learn about these conditions. The local medical community's education and awareness improves the quality of care for the individuals plagued with these chronic conditions. We also have a day of support, connection, and individuals building relationships so they know they are not alone in their battle. The theme this year is 80's arcade games. We have door prizes, raffle items, face painting, fun families events, and food to purchase and enjoy. Walk for free - Walk shirt require a $25.00 donation.
