The Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia and the GreenSpring International Academy of Music jointly present the Thalea String Quartet in "1828 and 1955: Schubert and DBR," a musical portrait of two extraordinary people at history-making times in their lives. In 1828, Franz Schubert gave the only public concert of his own works and wrote some of his most famous pieces. In 1955, the esteemed activist Rosa Parks sparked the Civil Rights Movement. In 2021, the award-winning Thalea String Quartet joins cellist Britton Riley to perform two visionary works inspired by these years - Schubert's majestic Cello Quintet in C major, D.956; and String Quartet no. 5 ("Parks") by violinist/composer Daniel Bernard Roumain (aka DBR).
The Thalea String Quartet is dedicated to bringing timeless music to audiences from all walks of life. From living rooms to concert stages around the world, the Thalea String Quartet aims to connect with audiences on a musical, emotional and personal level, from first time listeners to string quartet aficionados. They are devoted to building a new and diverse audience for chamber music through innovative programming and community engagement.
