Suicide Intervention Training (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

Pre-registration is required to attend this training. Anyone can learn suicide intervention skills. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a 2-day highly interactive training that equips participants to help identify those with thoughts of suicide; to ask clearly, directly and non-judgmentally about thoughts of suicide; and listen carefully to a person's story in order to help identify possible life connections and create safety from suicide. Unlike many other trainings, ASIST focuses much of the two days on actual practice. John and Shirley Swanson are certified and accomplished LivingWorks trainers in both ASIST and safeTALK. They are waiving their trainer fee but ask participants to provide $50 for the cost of materials. This can be paid on Day 1 of the training. We are limiting pre-registration to 25 participants. Attendance both days is required to receive a certificate of completion. Many agencies accept ASIST for CEUs. Many professionals are required to obtain a certain number of continuing education hours in suicide prevention/intervention. ASIST provides 14 hours of instruction/practice.
