The 15th Annual Working Artist sale offers a variety of art and craft made locally in Racine and Kenosha counties. All of the art and craft will be for sale. There are a lot of craft sales locally, but this one is different. This event is completely about the art and craft offered. It is organized by the artists themselves. It is not a fundraiser. The art and craft is high quality and you will not find repeated items in the venue. The 24 artists participating in the WAHS all create unique art and craft in different media. This year we have basketry, bookbinding, ceramics, collage, decorative gourds, drawing, fibers, blown and fused glass, jewelry, illustration, linocuts, painting, photography, silkscreen prints, sculpture, watercolor and wood.
In addition to seasoned artists like fiber artist Penny Schaubel and glass artist Jayne Herring there are also first time event participants, polymer clay artists Heidi Baehr and resin artist Kate Peterson. The visitors will find the pop art brooches of artist Kelly Witte, next to the delicate watercolors of Barbara Farrell in the same room as the funky metal sculpture of David Gaura and the hip pin-ups of Polar Ghost. This year also features many family art makers: ceramists Julie Schilf and her sister rock artist Helen Sampson, wood artists Randy and Jan Vaccaro, and decorative gourd artist, Melody Bigalke and her daughters including printmakers and bookbinders Lisa and Becky Bigalke of Rudbeckia Press. Melissa Bujniewicz creates unigue coiled vessels, Allison Merritt will have vivid paintings, ceramist Nate Hunter will have functional pottery, fiber artist Brenna Eaves have her crocheted sculptures and Debby Tenuta make beautiful creations out of beach glass. And there is so much more!
All of the artists will be there selling their own work. You can ask questions about their inspiration and media. Many of the artists teach at the Wustum Museum, Carthage College, Kenosha Public Museum, Hot Shot Glass, and Lemon Street Gallery. Missy Isley-Poltrock loves to share about Soul Collage at the Sienna Center!
This free event is for everyone. If you like to look at art and craft or are interested in buying unique handmade gifts or home decor this is your event. Please join us at the Working Artist Holiday Sale at the Kenosha Union Club 3030-39th Ave Kenosha on Sunday December 11 from 10am to 4pm.
